The Classical Music & Arts Development Program is one of the most distinctive and impactful aspects of the Santa Maria Foundation’s work. From the very beginning, the Foundation recognised the power of classical music as a tool for intellectual development, emotional healing, and personal growth—particularly for children who have experienced trauma or instability early in life.
This program provides structured training in classical music, vocal studies, music theory, and performance. Donations support access to qualified music teachers, musical instruments, sheet music, and regular practice sessions. For many of the girls, this is their first exposure to structured artistic education, and the impact is profound.
Learning music develops discipline, patience, memory, and focus. It enhances language skills, mathematical ability, and problem-solving, while also encouraging creativity and self-expression. For children who have struggled to communicate their emotions, music becomes a powerful and healing language of its own. Singing in choirs or playing in ensembles also builds teamwork, cooperation, and a strong sense of belonging.
Beyond academic benefits, music plays a therapeutic role. It helps restore confidence, reduce anxiety, and foster emotional resilience. Performances and recitals give the girls a sense of achievement and pride, reinforcing the belief that they are capable, talented, and worthy of recognition.
By supporting this program, donors help preserve a holistic approach to education—one that nurtures both the mind and the spirit. Music gives these girls a voice, a sense of identity, and the confidence to imagine a future filled with possibility.
